Actors Alive is our Youth Theatre, run weekly on Saturday mornings during term time for ages 5 – 16.

Each term gives our young people the opportunity to explore a new socio-political theme through theatre, be it acting, writing, directing or stage design. Actors Alive looks to the future through the eyes of young people, driven by their need for positive social change. Our main aims at Actor’s Alive are to develop creativity, confidence and teamwork, as well as to explore identity through self-expression.

AUTUMN TERM

VERBATIM THEATRE – Creating a documentary performance

This term we’re focusing on a new skill-set, exploring verbatim theatre and what it means to play a character based on a real person. We’ll look at how we can put ourselves in someone else’s shoes and stay true to their life story, exploring our similarities across ages, cultures and life experiences. We will play with a variety of performance techniques focusing on empathy and the bridge between actor and character, as well as planning our vision and writing the script for our Spring Production in 2019. The term will end in a sharing for friends and family, building the suspense for our big production in March!

We are delighted to say that Actors Alive has been accepted onto the 2016 Jack Petchey Achievement Award Scheme!

Jack Petchey Achievement Award

From January 2016 Actors Alive will participate in the Jack Petchey Achievement Award Scheme.

The Jack Petchey Foundation makes grants to programmes and projects that benefit young people aged 11-25.

Each term one Actors Alive student aged 11+ will be nominated by peers, parents and staff to win a grant of £250 that will go towards resources that will benefit the group – such as technical equipment for a production, or a visit from a specialist drama instructor.

As well as receiving a framed badge, certificate and membership for the JFP Achievers community, winners will have the opportunity to attend a local celebration ceremony at which they will be congratulated for their achievement onstage in front of friends and family.
