Engine Room puts you, the audience, at the heart of the creative process. Following the sharing you will be asked to complete a feedback form, with your comments directly influencing the next development of the pieces. Give feedback, offer ideas and discover the next generation of theatre before anyone else.

Artists that have previously presented work include; Nouveau Riché, Vera Chok, The Queer House, Opia Collective, Cocoa Butter Club and Playing On.

Nell Hardy‘s debut solo show based on her own experiences of homelessness and mental health hospitalisation is a poetic, dizzying journey through the dissociated mind of one woman our society left behind. With devastating authenticity, disarming humour and, ultimately, hope, the show demands the question: who gets to decide what madness is in a society that treats people like this?

Showcased through streaming in 2020, this production is a “screamingly raw portrayal….it will change you” (A Younger Theatre).

When Mark is mugged on the way to college, his reality is shattered. This life-changing event forces him to confront some of his deepest issues. On his journey towards healing he realises that interrogating his connection to masculinity might be key to finding a way forwards. For Mark being a boy has meant closing up when it comes to processing complex emotion. However, through reassembling himself, Mark starts to get a sharper image of the person he wants to be. Boys Cry explores self-image, maturity, life after trauma and definitions of manhood.

Ghost and John are a Hong Kong multidisciplinary art duo who are best known for our innovative integration of performance and contemporary technologies. Drawing from our experiences of working within biology and computer science, we have developed a dynamic artistic practice that examines the intricacies of the body and nature, technological advances and folklore that accompany history. Our embrace of digital technology allows us to create extended choreographic experience beyond theatre and dance, and broadcast our arts to wider audiences. Working across video, installation and performance, we create unique spectator encounters from scientific to spiritual, and from historical to mythical. Through complex investigations of social, historical, and cultural differences across the globe, we constantly explore the post-colonial trauma of Hong Kong, the use of technology in democratic society and new forms of art presentation.
