An evening of poetry, talk and song in homage to Federico Garcia Lorca, hosted by Michael Glover.

Eight poets, artists and singers will come together to explore their own intimate encounters with the poet Lorca. Michael Glover will also be launching Homages to Federico, his new collection of poetry spoken in the voice of Lorca’s dead lover.

The participants will be:

Michael Glover, Jessé Dupre of Haste Theatre, the poets Martyn Crucefix, Hilary Davies and Marius Kociejowski, reader Kate Paul, artist Paul Hodgson, and singer Patricia Ninian.

Michael will talk about Lorca’s assassination in 1936 in an olive grove outside Granada. Kate Paul will read from Homages to Federico. Marius Kociejowski will explain what the idea of Duende, that exalted emotional state often identified with the spirit of Flamenco, meant to Lorca. Paul Hodgson will describe making art in the spirit of Lorca, and two poets who have translated his poetry, Hilary Davies and Martyn Crucefix, will describe how they have sought to bring over his intimate presence into English.

An exhibition of the same title, with paintings by Ruth Dupré, Paul Hodgson and Michael Glover, will be shown at Omnibus for the entire month of September.
