Omni-Wright
PRESENTED BY OMNIBUS THEATRE
Omni-WRIGHT - because plays are a lot more than just words!
Omni-Wright is an 8-part course exploring the fundamental elements of playwriting, led by our Literary Associate Sam. As part of a group, members of the course get the chance to explore characterisation and world building, to develop plot, structure and writing dialogue.
This course is designed for writers wanting to build the skills for writing for theatre and who want to work towards writing their first play or maybe their tenth! Writers with more experience have also used the course to re-draft a piece of work by exploring the building blocks of playwriting.
Previous members of the course have included writers, actors and directors, using their skills to inform their work on the course. Other members have come from further afield with a background in writing novels, poetry and journalism. By exploring theatre in an inclusive and informal environment, everyone is able to learn from each other.
People are advised to bring a project in mind or already on the go to work on throughout the course. Writers also have the chance to share work with the group to get feedback on their re-draft.
‘Omni-Wright gave me exactly what I needed. A clear, practical way into structure and dialogue, without ever losing sight of the fact that playwriting is instinctive too. Sam creates a generous, honest space where feedback feels constructive rather than daunting, and where every writer's project, however early or messy, is taken seriously. I came in with a script I didn't quite know how to unlock, and I left with real clarity on where it needed to go. I'd recommend this course to any writer, whatever stage they're at.’ - Shilpa, Previous Participant
Omni-Wright is an in-person course with sessions held at Omnibus Theatre (SW4).
