SAMPLES IV brings Backroom’s rapid-fire new writing showcase to Omnibus Theatre for six nights of bold, immediate and exciting new work.
Across the week, audiences will see 24 short pieces from emerging and established writers, performed by brilliant actors and presented with the stripped-back urgency that defines Backroom. Each night features a different selection of plays, giving audiences a first look at stories, characters and voices still in motion — raw, alive and ready to meet a room.
SAMPLES is built to give writers a proper platform: not just a reading, not just a scratch night, but a live theatrical event where new work can be tested, sharpened and celebrated in front of an audience. It is fast, accessible and actor-led, creating a space where fresh writing can land with energy, humour, feeling and bite.
Every performance is followed by a live Q&A with the writers, opening up the process and giving audiences an insight into how new theatre is made. For artists, it is a chance to hear their workout loud, learn from the room and take the next step. For audiences, it is a chance to discover new writing before anyone else.
