PRESENTED BY OMNIBUS THEATRE
Dynamic theatre makers present work for the very first time in front of a live audience.
Our regular scratch programme, where dynamic and talented theatre makers present daring, new work in the first stages of development.
Engine Room puts you, the audience, at the heart of the creative process. Following the sharing you will be asked to complete a feedback form, with your comments directly influencing the next development of the pieces. Give feedback, offer ideas and discover the next generation of theatre before anyone else.
Artists that have previously presented work include; Nouveau Riché, Vera Chok, The Queer House, Opia Collective, Cocoa Butter Club and Playing On.
The line up changes for each show so keep an eye on our website and social media to see who will be taking part this season.
ARTIST TESTIMONIALS:
Engine Room is the exact thing that we emerging artists need right now, especially those of us who are a part of marginalised communities. Having the time and space to experiment and fail safely is invaluable. Personally, I feel so honoured to have been selected and grateful for the opportunity. I was able to rehearse, workshop, have a private reading, and get audience feedback all for free, which is truly incredible. I am so happy that Engine Room exists and would like to thank anyone who has made it a possibility.

CLEAR WATER
PRESENTED BY CONNY TEMPLEMAN
Anne is a goat farmer, shocked by the human sewage she finds swimming in
the sea. She is no eco warrior, has never done anything like this before, but
it’s here she decides to stop paying her water bills.
Debt collection letters mount up, her children arrive worried about her
financial situation and worried too about the stranger who arrived on the
beach and is now installed in her Shepherd’s Hut. What can they do?
Clear Water is about the current waste water scandal spanning across UK
waters. The play asks the question; what can a single person do but revolt?

PSYCHE
PRESENTED BY FRASER WALL
“The explanation doesn’t have to be rational, Matt, it just has to be true”
Matt has had lifesaving emergency bowel surgery. Now out of ICU, he’s
revisiting his memories with his EMDR therapist Anna, and together they try
to put back together what feels broken. Matt must reinterpret what has
happened in the past, so he can have a future. But what’s holding him back?
Who’s at the door?
psychē sprints through different genres, locations, times and realities on a
darkly witty quest of a young man’s search for a more manageable, happy,
future.

THE SHAME
PRESENTED BY ALFIE WEBSTER
Dill and Dylan stand side by side at the urinals. One has a broken nose. One
had a panic attack on the way to work this morning. One is hiding. One is
unmasking. They seem to have nothing in common - except they share the
same name. The same fear. The same shame.
After this chance meeting, both of their lives begin to shift as they’re forced to
confront who they are, and who they’ve been trying not to be.
The shame explores the weight of sexual shame, where it comes from and
what it might take to live beyond its constraints. It looks at how class and
queerness collide, and the pressure harmful connotations of masculinity
place on those questioning their sexuality and identity.
All three pieces at this sharing are directed by Zoë Templeman-Young
