PRESENTED BY FLAMING THEATRE
Marin’s 16, queer and in love. When her parents try to control her, she escapes into a dream world to discover herself.
“earthly dust from off thee shaken
shut your eyes
look through the glass
count your fingers
count your toes
breathe through it, you’ll be alright
come on
jump!”
Lulla is a funny, scary, wild new play from award-nominated writer Ben SantaMaria, who recently completed the Paines Plough Tour the Writer programme. It reached the Verity Bargate Award top 100 longlist and follows Flaming Theatre’s hit UK tour of Really Want to Hurt Me.
“life is terror with a clown mask superglued on”
Martha J. Baldwin (Taliesin) directs this boldly physical production, laced with folk horror and dark fantasy. Take a surreal journey into Marin’s subconscious where she confronts her deepest desires and nightmares, guided by the mysterious gender-shifting Lady Nightshade and haunted by her childhood lullabies.
Lulla is a poetic and transgressive adventure for ages 16+. It powerfully explores the pressure to conform and the shame forced upon many young LGBTQ+ people, through Marin’s battle to embrace her emerging identity.
2 July: Post-show Q&A with Free2B Alliance, a London based community organisation supporting LGBTQ+ young people and their parents. Free to ticket holders.
7 July: Post-show Q&A with Schools OUT, the charity working towards equality in education for LGBTQ+ people since 1974. Free to ticket holders.
Flaming Theatre is also running free workshops at the Omnibus for LGBTQ+ and other young people aged 16-25. No previous experience required. Limited spaces, which need to be booked in advance:

"Enchanting. Poignant. Highly visual and striking. Beautiful and at times painful. Funny and uneasy in equal measure, this quietly beautiful show is one not to be missed."
