OCT STORYTELLERS:

Dan Magill

Dan is a communications consultant working in the public sector.  He loves to tell stories and is looking forward to telling another at Clapham Omnibus.

Roddy Gye 

Roddy has lived in Clapham since 1980 and has been the technical advisor to Omnibus from its earliest beginnings.  He has by turns been a teacher, a stockbroker, an army reservist, a film maker, an engineer, a journalist, a school governor, a youth leader and, for the last fifty years, the owner and manager of a small technology company.  He is an honorary life member of one of the Inns of Court.  He is in his early seventies and is still trying to decide what he wants to do when he grows up.

Jane Dodd

Jane is a lawyer working in real estate tax and a CEDR accredited mediator. She has also worked in banking, local government and was a professional actor/presenter/director for over 10 years. 

Jane was in the Army Reserves for over 20 years and commanded a unit known as The Devil’s Own in the City of London. She is currently the Adjutant of the Light Cavalry of the Honourable Artillery Company.

Dr Benji Waterhouse 

Benji is an NHS Consultant Psychiatrist, award-winning comedian and Penguin-published author. His first book You Don’t Have to Be Mad to Work Here unlocked the doors to the psych ward, was an instant Sunday Times best-seller, and is being adapted for television. He hosts the international storytelling night The Moth in London and last August he took his show Maddening to the Pleasance Courtyard as part of the Edinburgh festival. 

Elizabeth Buchan 

Elizabeth began her career as a blurb writer at Penguin Books after graduating from the University of Kent with a double degree in English and History. She moved on to become a fiction editor at Random House before leaving to write full-time. Her novels include the award-winning Consider the Lily and the international bestseller, Revenge of the Middle-Aged Woman, which was made into a CBS Primetime Drama.Later novels include I Can’t Begin to Tell You, astory of SOE agents and resistance in wartime Denmark, The New Mrs Clifton, The Museum of Broken Promises, Two Women in Rome and Bonjour,Sophie. Her latest, Woodspring, will be published in April 2026.

Elizabeth Buchan’s short stories are broadcast on BBC Radio 4 and published in magazines. She has been a regular reviewer for The Times, the Sunday Times and the Daily Mail, and has chaired the Betty Trask and Desmond Elliot literary prizes. She has been a judge for the Whitbread First Novel Award, the 2014 Costa Novel Award and for 2025 Women’s Prize for Non-Fiction. She is a patron of the Guildford Book Festival and co-founder of the Clapham Book Festival.

Heleana Blackwell 

Heleana is the comedian behind the hit solo show Attack of the 5ft Woman, which she performed at the prestigious Soho Theatre. Her television work includes headlining her own episode of the Amazon Prime series Queer Comedy Club's Stand Up Specials: London. Alongside her solo comedy, she actively tours the UK with her wife, poet Sophia Blackwell, in their acclaimed comedy duo show Wife Material, which has been to A wide range of events from Camden Fringe to Glastonbury.
