OOTW2026: MURDER WITH MALICE
On July 24, 1973, Dallas officer Darrell Cain killed 12-year-old Santos Rodriguez during interrogation over an $8 burglary, playing Russian roulette before shooting him. The killing sparked mass protests and became a symbol of police brutality. Teatro Dallas commissioned Murder with Malice (originally Santos), translated by Carlos Morton, premiering in 1993.

Locked in a filthy flat during a global pandemic, Berenice, a famous but broken actress, refuses to perform her nightly digital show. As her agent fights to keep it going, a buried truth surfaces and the two women confront the predator their industry has protected for years. A fierce, funny two-hander.

Basing himself on Mozart’s Don Giovanni, Saramago begins his play with the arrival of the Commendatore to supper. But what if the Commendatore fails to send Don Giovanni down into hell? What if Don Giovanni isn’t the great seducer he makes himself out to be? Our play will reveal all.
