It’s 40 years since the critically acclaimed “Flaming Tunes” album was made by Gareth Williams (of “This Heat”} and his old school friend Mary Currie, on a Portastudio at his house in Balham.
Originally made as cassette, it was finally officially released on vinyl in 2012, and has gone on to become something of an underground, lo-fi cult classic. Sadly Williams had died before getting the chance to enjoy its critical success, and until this year the album has never been played live.
So to commerorate this anniversary Mary Currie has got together with her bandmates in The PG’s to recreate this seminal album for a live audience.
This gig at The Omnibus Theatre is only its third outing, and will comprise of 2 sets.
The music that has been variously described as:
‘a neat juxtaposition of folk rock, minimalism and early industrial, Flaming Tunes is a timeless piece of work’
and
‘a rattle trap, broadly aware, stylistically diverse, honest, engaging and occasionally grating affair: just what music should be.
The PGs are Mary Currie, Alison Craig, Nick Haeffner, Marcus Holdaway and William Hayter
