CLAPHAM BOOK FESTIVAL

PRESENTED BY CLAPHAM WRITERS
Melvyn Bragg headlines Clapham Book Festival 2023

Clapham’s distinctive and quirky book festival this year includes the biggest of broadcasting big names, bestselling fiction writers, a compelling crime panel, and brand new talent – so there is something for everyone.

Paula Johnson (Honorary Fellow Royal Society of Literature) has pulled the programme together:

“This year’s Festival is spread over several exciting days. Our programme kicks off at 3pm with bestselling and prodigious crime writer Simon Brett in discussion with barrister-turned author Nicola Williams.

At 5pm, we have bestselling novelists Kate Mosse and Elizabeth Buchan talking about their fiction.

And at 7pm, two of the UK’s best-known broadcasters – Melvyn Bragg and Radio 4’s Tom Sutcliffe – range over the topics of broadcasting, writing and life in general. Should be fascinating!”

Come and meet the authors and have your books signed (authors’ works will be on sale thanks to the support of our partner, local independent bookshop Clapham Books).

Plus we have Zoom interviews with thriller writer Ivy Ngeow (17 October) and Sarah Bax Horton (19 October) who brings to light new research into the real Jack the Ripper, from her family’s historical records.

And last but not least, from 3pm-5pm on Sunday 22 October local thriller author Julie Anderson leads a guided walk around the literary sites of Clapham.

RITA MCGRINDER IS STILL HERE

Rita McGrinder, fifty-something Irish barmaid, looks back on a disappointed life; a tale that runs from tragedy to comedy to a kind of redemption. Rita is pitilessly honest, brutally comic, and maybe feels just a wee bit homicidal. And if she does, well who could blame her?
