When provocative installation artist Burton Shepard approaches children’s illustrator Amanda proposing a collaborative project about her father, she’s keen to tell his story. The good parts at least. Burton’s research, however, has uncovered a disturbing secret, and he has a very different artistic intention.
Ahead of opening night, the Shoebridge family gather for a birthday celebration, bringing with them old grievances and new suspicions. Meanwhile Burton’s collaborators must reckon with their own role in dramatising real events and people. A war to control the story is raging, but whose story is it to tell?
“sicko” is a twisty black comedy about the ethics of representing real-life figures in artistic works, and the legacy of Britain’s colonial history.
Presented by queer-led company Scram + Scrum Theatre. From the writer of “Hutchy the Hare” and “An Apology to Lady Gaga” (VAULT Festival), and the director of “I F*cked You in My Spaceship” (Soho Theatre).
