UNFORGETTABLE GIRL

PRESENTED BY ELISABETH GUNAWAN, CREATED A MONSTER & PLEASANCE
Money can't buy love, but £19.99/month can get you a mail-order bride directly from the wasteland of Asian stereotypes, to cure you of the deadlier pandemic that has plagued us for longer: loneliness.

Follow Vaccine as she strives to become unforgettable, but what lies beneath her shiny surface? And how is she forced to transform, destroy and rebuild herself in order to survive? An irreverent, no-holds-barred, bouffonesque myth about the violence our culture inflicts on bodies of colour.

Unforgettable examines how the world turns some women into “homo-sacer” – “accursed” humans who are irredeemable by justice, freedom and love.

The piece was first conceived as a thesis project at RADA, in response to Gunawan’s experience as the only East Asian woman in the school, eventually expanding into a full-length scratch at Bloomsbury Festival (2020) and at the Golden Goose Theatre (2021), and premiered at the Cockpit as part of VOILA! Festival 2021, with support from Arts Council England and Lighthouse Poole.
