A nighttime picture of Europe from space with lights

WOMENHOUSE (LES FEMMES DE LA MAISON)

BY PAULINE SALES
TRANSLATED FROM FRENCH BY LÉA DES GARETS
Three artists, three eras, one house.

The artists are all women, the owner of the house is a man.

After his wife leaves him, Joris opens the doors to a house which will host generations of women: these artists will make it their home, their studio, their place of expression. In turn, it will become their haven, their trap or their battlefield.

Léa des Garets’ translation of Pauline SalesWomenhouse paints a picture of the evolution of women’s place in society from the perspective of female creativity.

Léa des Garets (she/they) is a queer migrant theatre-maker from Bordeaux, France She started her career in British theatre with the international ensemble Night Train Theatre Company, and was one of the 10 mentees selected for Projekt Europa’s Empower mentorship programme, which supports and champions migrant theatre talent in the UK. Her work aims to give more visibility to hidden voices from the past and the present, focussing particularly on international voices, female voices and the LGBTQIA+ community.

Pauline Sales is a French actress, playwright and director. She has written more than twenty plays, and her work has been translated and produced in several other languages.
