After his wife leaves him, Joris opens the doors to a house which will host generations of women: these artists will make it their home, their studio, their place of expression. In turn, it will become their haven, their trap or their battlefield.
Léa des Garets’ translation of Pauline Sales’ Womenhouse paints a picture of the evolution of women’s place in society from the perspective of female creativity.
Léa des Garets (she/they) is a queer migrant theatre-maker from Bordeaux, France She started her career in British theatre with the international ensemble Night Train Theatre Company, and was one of the 10 mentees selected for Projekt Europa’s Empower mentorship programme, which supports and champions migrant theatre talent in the UK. Her work aims to give more visibility to hidden voices from the past and the present, focussing particularly on international voices, female voices and the LGBTQIA+ community.
Pauline Sales is a French actress, playwright and director. She has written more than twenty plays, and her work has been translated and produced in several other languages. After having been an associate author at the Comédie de Valence for seven years, she was the co-director of the National Dramatic Center of Normandy-Vire, the Théâtre du Préau, from 2009 to 2018. Pauline Sales is currently writing and directing with her company À L’ENVI. She is currently rehearsing the original French script of ‘’Les Femmes de la Maison’’ for the festival d’Avignon this Summer, and is also working on a musical adaptation of Demeter and Persephone which will be performed in 2024.
