Tomasin and Tessa here, from Soap Soup Theatre and Tessa Bide Productions. We can’t wait to premiere our brand new show with this lovely run at Omnibus Theatre. Omnibus’ Zeraffa Giraffa was such a success last year and we are excited to continue this momentum by combining forces to do what we do best – make unforgettable, magical and innovative theatre for family audiences. The Selfish Giant is shaping up to be an immersive spectacle, combining puppetry with physical theatre and circus, music and stunning design. We’re taking it on a UK-wide tour from February 2019, but of course audiences in London will get to see it first this December! We hope to see you this winter, in the Giant’s garden…
We’re so excited to present The Selfish Giant this Christmas, following last year’s Offie-winning Zeraffa Giraffa. So as an extra special treat, here is a first look at the official artwork!
Grinter is a giant. She lives happily alone in her huge cold house, surrounded by her huge snowy gardens, enclosed by her high, frost-covered walls. She shuts out the world, because long ago, the world shut her out, and so she hides, safe and quiet in her peaceful, icy home. Outside the towering walls of her enormous garden, the world has been changing and there is very little green left. One day, the children – tired of playing on hard roads and grey rooftops – find a gap in the giant’s wall and climb through, changing the course of the children’s and Grinter’s lives forever.
This Christmas we invite you to step in to a magical world where giants are your neighbors and a once beautiful garden is stuck in everlasting winter. The Selfish Giant, a contemporary retelling of Oscar Wilde’s beloved short story, combines captivating storytelling with spellbinding puppetry. With a sprinkling of festive magic, this is a beautifully crafted show for all ages.
The Selfish Giant runs from 28 Nov to 24 Dec at Omnibus Theatre – grab your tickets HERE
