#Omnibus5 Day 2 | Our New Patron

By November 7, 2018No Comments

Omnibus Theatre celebrates its 5th Birthday on the 10th November by announcing Dame Judi Dench as its newest Patron. She joins a roster of high profile figures from across the arts and theatre community who are supporting our award-winning Off-West End venue and helping to build its London-wide profile.

Omnibus Theatre’s patrons also include Sir Michael Gambon, the Old Vic’s Artistic Director Matthew Warchus, acclaimed director Richard Eyre and Maggi Hambling CBE.

Artistic Director Marie McCarthy says: “Omnibus Theatre has come a long way in a short space of time. It’s taken a monumental, combined effort from our dedicated team, supporters and loyal audience to get to this point and we are thrilled that Dame Judi Dench has joined us on our shared mission. Her support is phenomenal news for an Off-West End theatre like ours that survives without any core-funding.”

Dame Judi Dench

“Small theatres such as Omnibus are the lifeblood of our industry. Without them, many actors – myself included – would not have had the same opportunity to hone our craft. I am delighted to be joining as a patron of Omnibus Theatre as it begins its next exciting chapter. It is a wonderful theatre, brimming with talent.”

Sir Michael Gambon

“In the short period of time Omnibus has been open, it has produced a wonderful range of high quality theatre. From drama to comedy, children’s theatre to storytelling, it has managed to take inspiration from its former life as a library and has created a wonderful space for the imagination and creativity.”

Sir Richard Eyre

“Over the years I have met countless actors, directors and theatre-makers from all over the world. Almost every single one would be able to name a smaller, fringe theatre that has helped them on their way. There is incredible theatre on show at Omnibus and it is being made by some of the talent that will go on to form the new generation of British theatre-makers.”

Matthew Warchus

“Running a theatre isn’t always straightforward but if you are fortunate enough to have a supportive audience then life is considerably easier. If you are able, please support the fantastic work happening at Omnibus… [and] help the team realise the enormous potential of this wonderful theatre.”

Maggi Hambling CBE

“Not all theatres are places where you feel immediately at home but Omnibus never fails to deliver a warm welcome. It has energy, charm and creativity in abundance. Go see a show, become a member, cherish this little place with a big personality.”
