Hallelujah Chorus
This uplifting and dramatic ending to the Messiah always leaves us feeling positive at the end of the evening. It has become a very recognisable and well known piece of music today – can you imagine how one of our electroacoustic composers may have recreated it!?
O thou that tellest good tidings to Zion
We love to listen out for the beautiful solo alto voice in this movement and the way in which the instruments imitate her melody! A elegant movement full of charm.
And the Glory of the Lord
We love how Handel’s ‘Messiah’ has a wide range of emotions throughout the work – uplifting, sorrowful, serious, joyous… This is one of our favourite uplifting movements; it is from Scene 1, Isaiah’s prophecy of salvation, near the beginning of the full work.
All we like sheep have gone astray
In this movement you hear all the voices of the chorus and how their lines weave throughout. A masterful moment of composition by Handel.
His yoke is easy (chorus)
The theme of this movement is first stated by the female voices and then explored across the ensemble. Listen out for the climax of this movement – a fantastic full sound!
Handel’s Messiah: Reimagined 2018 will be at Omnibus Theatre 2 Dec as part of our Sunday Music programme – get your tickets HERE→
