A nighttime picture of Europe from space with lights

ALARMS (ALLARMI)

BY EMANUELE ALDROVANDI
TRANSLATED FROM ITALIAN BY MARCO YOUNG
A group of terrorists are planning an attack.

Their aim? Kill the President of the European Commission, broadcast it all online, and start a revolution. These far-right extremists don’t believe in democracy, they hate immigrants and they want to establish a new dictatorship across Europe. Taking its cue from the growing rise of far-right movements across Europe, Allarmi offers a subjective exploration of the thin line that separates revolutionary heroes and mythomaniacs.

Marco Young is a British-Italian actor and translator, who has been translating commercially since 2018. He began translating Italian theatre into English in early 2020, focusing on contemporary Italian pieces discussing migration and journeys. He was a mentee on the 2022-23 Foreign Affairs Theatre Translator Mentorship Programme, for which his translation of Suburban Miracles by Gabriele Di Luca was showcased at Camden People’s Theatre in January 2023. His translation of Sorry We Didn’t Die at Sea by Emanuele Aldrovandi ran at Seven Dials Playhouse in July 2022 and will transfer to Park Theatre in September 2023.
