ALICE ZAWADZKI, SHIRLEY SMART & MISHA MULLOV-ABBADO

PRESENTED BY EFG LONDON JAZZ FESTIVAL
For one night only this fine trio of exceptional and multi-talented London-based string players come to Clapham’s Omnibus Theatre to perform as part of this year’s EFG London Jazz Festival after their popular live-streamed performance at last year’s festival.

An evening of music featuring many different genres, featuring violinist-vocalist Alice Zawadzki, cellist Shirley Smart and double bassist Misha Mullov-Abbado. All three are multi-award-winning musicians that are very well-known on the jazz scene, come from classical backgrounds and have spent a lot of time abroad getting to know the music of many different musical cultures from around the world.

Anglo-Polish vocalist, violinist, songwriter and composer Alice Zawadzki has had her work as a performer, collaborator and speaker earn her a considerable reputation as “a genuine original” (The Guardian) and “the phenomenon” (MOJO magazine), and is a distinctive and individual presence on the creative European music scene.

“An awestruck hymn to nature that masters all manner of styles.”
The Guardian on Alice Zawadzki

Shirley Smart is recognised as one of the UK’s most versatile and creative cellists, being equally at home and well versed in jazz and Middle Eastern music as well as classical music. One of the most creative cellists on the music scene she has worked with many leading jazz and world music groups, including Antonio Forcione, Mulato Astatke, Gilad Atzmon, Neil Cowley, Julian Ferraretto and Robert Mitchell.

Winner of the 2014 Kenny Wheeler Jazz Prize and Omnibus Theatre’s resident double bass player and bandleader, Misha Mullov-Abbado is an in-demand bass player, composer and arranger. He is a 2017 BBC Radio 3 New Generation Artist, a 2014 City of Music Foundation Artist and has released three albums on Edition Records as a band-leader and composer which have been extremely well-received in newspapers and magazines across Europe. In November 2019 Matthew Barley along with the BBC Concert Orchestra conducted by Michael Seal, gave the world premiere of Misha’s cello concerto at the Queen Elizabeth Hall at London’s Southbank Centre as part of the EFG London Jazz Festival and commissioned by BBC Radio 3.
