MARY AND HER MONSTER

HYBRID RESIDENCY ARTIST: CATHERINE DUQUETTE
Part of Get On The Internet!

Currently in early development, Mary and Her Monster, is a collaboration between theatre maker/narrative designer Catherine Duquette and director/interactive technology designer Ruth Sergel.

Catherine and Ruth are creating an interactive hybrid performance about mothering and monstrosity that explores the tension between the power of mothering and the demonisation of those who mother – all the while society celebrates the control and prestige of techno-geek men and their pale reflections of creating “life”.

The project also draws parallels between the community of women surrounding Mary Shelley, the creator of Frankenstein – their attempts at creating life and the external forces that stopped them– and the mother and madmen voices of today.

At 11:00 AM (online only) and at 2:30 PM (in person at Omnibus) you are invited to join the development process through a roundtable discussion with Catherine on mothering against the backdrop of our tech obsessed world. Come, share your thoughts, and take part in interactive exercises exploring the notion of mothering, mental health, and how we can build a world designed for mother-artists to flourish.

*mothering = any act of mothering as you define it, including caring for others, creating art, creating or nurturing space for life to thrive
