PETAL

PRESENTED BY SUSAN MOMOKO HINGLEY + HONEY-TONGUED THEATRE PRODUCTIONS
Mirror, mirror on the wall, who’s the worst troll of them all?

-It’s blowing up. Thousands of people are watching it. All over the world.

-If you treated her with a shred of decency, she’d still be alive today.

Petal, a young contestant on the popular reality TV show Love Loft, dreams of baking her way to success. But as swiftly as fame propels her into the limelight, trolls crawl out from the darkness to torment her.

When Petal’s plight is plastered all over the news, her sister Mina vows to find justice. Most of the trolls have disappeared. Except one. As the suspect is dragged into the open, is Mina herself becoming the bully she so despises?

A ferocious return by the company behind the critically acclaimed Baaba’s Footsteps (VAULT 2020), Petal explores the dark world of online hate and asks, isn’t it about time that trolls paid their toll?

Written by Susan Momoko Hingley and directed by Ragga Dahl Johansen, Petal fuses physicality, music and language. The story was developed as part of New Earth Theatre‘s Professional Writers Programme and Tangled Feet’s Devolution Evolution project.

Proudly supported by Arts Council England.
