Choking Game

BEEP. CRACK. SPLASH. Welcome on board. Save a sea turtle while you save yourself. A new Asian play.

Unease on Cemporna, an Asian peninsula that is named after the gates to heaven. All seems to be centred around a seasoned UK marine biologist.

A boy is bullied to death. A dying baby. Suffocating sea turtles. The world is going down, yet all turn away when it’s time to face the consequences. Can you fix it?

Choking Game is a new East-Asian play that questions the western-centric presentation of climate change and performative tokenism in marine wildlife conservation. The play touches on relationships among humans and the earth. Humankind suffocates itself as it chokes the planet. Created by all-Asian creatives, the play approaches White Gaze and Orientalism informed by lived experience.

Choking Game is generously funded by Arts Council England.
