ENGINE ROOM

PRESENTED BY OMNIBUS THEATRE
Dynamic theatre makers present work for the very first time in front of a live audience.

Our regular scratch programme, where dynamic and talented theatre makers present daring, new work in the first stages of development.

Engine Room puts you, the audience, at the heart of the creative process. Following the sharing you will be asked to complete a feedback form, with your comments directly influencing the next development of the pieces. Give feedback, offer ideas and discover the next generation of theatre before anyone else.

Artists that have previously presented work include; Nouveau Riché, Vera Chok, The Queer House, Opia Collective, Cocoa Butter Club and Playing On.

Check out the full line-up below.

This performance will take place with a live audience at Omnibus Theatre.

We are so excited to welcome you back through our doors.

We are committed to safely staging a small, but perfectly formed, programme of work while we are able. We understand that booking tickets for live events right now feels like a bit of a gamble.

We want to assure you that should Government guidance change before your event, prohibiting it from taking place, we will contact you and offer an immediate refund.

To keep you safe, we have new measures in line with Covid-19 guidelines. Please check out our Covid-19 Safety FAQs for full information on what to expect and how to prepare for your visit.

Higher Ground

by Karen Whyte

“Twelve steps, right?”
– Well, some of them are a bit Jesus-y so if you skip over them ones it’s actually only about seven and a half.

Jamie Gallagher’s just been released from prison following a four year sentence and he’s keen to piece his fractured life back together. During a rush of success as a professional footballer, Jamie developed a drug and alcohol habit which ultimately upended his life and career. Now he’s a free man…but what about his lingering addictions? Will they continue to keep him prisoner?

Inspired by real-life events, Higher Ground is a deep dive into the depths of addiction, the pursuit of recovery and the power of community. Recovery isn’t linear…but most things aren’t are they? An ensemble piece set in West Ham in 1995, the play follows a working class community desperately in pursuit of Higher Ground.

KING GEORGE

by Natasha Samrai

What would you do if the heavens sent you a baby? Would you send it right back up there?

King George explores, in brief but piercing detail, the weight and urgency of the decisions which must be made in the face of modern pregnancy. Both darkly comic and unapologetically honest, it sits in the heart of the womb’s dilemma, and makes its way around the twisted knot of anticipated (and possibly unwanted) motherhood.

Written by Natasha Samrai

Directed by Sharan Atwal

Performed by Caron Kehoe and Áine O’Neill-Mason

LOST CAT PROJECT

by Louisa Doyle

In March 2021, Louisa Doyle shot a documentary that they cannot show to anyone. It is a film of the three encounters they had with a 70 year old photographer called Jack*. Jack is a total stranger, who they met by ringing the number on his missing cat poster. In this new play in development, Louisa re-enacts and re-imagines their interactions with Jack on stage with the help of the audience. Combining participatory theatre, documentary re-enactment and autobiographical performance, LOST CAT PROJECT raises questions about the nature of intergenerational friendships and memory as a means of editing the past.
