THE MYTH OF GRAVITY

By Xavier Stanziola
Translated by Alexander Aguayo
Directed by Robyn Lexi
And what if he doesn’t like who we are?

That’s the risk we take. We will remove our masks, take the leap and between the three of us we will catch each other if we fall.

What would you do if they threatened to take your children away from you? Alejandra and Karla face the unimaginable: being falsely accused of mistreating their adopted son. When neither evidence nor common sense helps them get their family back together, they will use any means deemed necessary to assert their rights. This is a drama with profoundly complex characters who little by little discover their darkest instincts, willing to do anything to make their truth come to light.

About the playwright: Xavier Stanziola is a writer, university professor, and researcher. This month he is directing in Panama his new play, La Pura Pureza de la Luz, dealing with lived experiences of sexual harassment of women in academia in Panama.

About the translator: Alexander Aguayo received his Ph.D. in Comparative Literature from the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor. Currently, he is working on a new translation of Nancy Morejon’s poetry volume Madrigal for a Black Prince

All plays at #OOTW2023 will be presented as staged readings.
