THE DOOR CLOSED AND THE HOUSE WAS SMALL

PRESENTED BY OUT OF THE WINGS
Out of the Wings returns to the Omnibus for its annual festival of theatre from the Spanish and Portuguese-speaking worlds.

Written by Ricardo Neves Neves (Portugal)
Translated by Sarah Greenwood

A real estate comedy for two actors.

Two immovable assets seek a home.

Or should it be: one immovable asset seeks a home. The other’s only there to open the door.

Buyer and estate agent throw themselves off a waterfall and head in search of a house or cave or chilled watermelon for the immovable to inhabit.

In anti-epic style, they comb the city with their eyes peeled.

Anecdotes become real, urban myths write themselves into history and back again as the furniture disappears into the undergrowth and the hope of finding a property that suits sinks into the substantial cracks between the floorboards.

How to buy a house in a land where foreign investment has forced prices through the proverbial roof?

How to cater for a buyer that insists on one detail as arbitrary as a doorbell?

Aren’t there days when we all want to stop the world from spinning?

Find your answers and your questions here, but don’t hold out for a happy ending!

All plays at #OOTW2022 will be presented as rehearsed readings.

Generating relationships online … it’s child’s play.

Digital society is driven by ambivalence and anxiety. Worlds we strive to belong to, escape us, like water slipping through our fingers. Worlds made of pills, racks, and plastic bags. Worlds of labels, stilettos, and shopping trolleys; of suicides and collectives. A metaverse.

ON THE EDGE

Away from the sound of bullets and cries of despair that characterise life for many living by the river that separates northern Mexico and the USA, we hear the voices of ghosts: people who had fears, hopes and fell in love despite the tragedy unfolding around them.
