Inside the European sex-trafficking industry, a Serbian girl attempts to find her place in a world she never asked to be part of.

Part of our Vault Festival Transfer Season

“I could tell you I had no choice. I could tell you I’m innocent. But I know that wouldn’t be completely true.”

Jana is on the cusp of adulthood; she’s started dating her first boyfriend and is getting ready to leave war-torn Serbia, to provide for her family. But when she wakes up in a basement in Bosnia, it is clear that life doesn’t always follow the plans we make for it. Ella Dorman-Gajic‘s debut play, directed by Maddy Corner

“Impassioned.”
The Guardian (on Ella Dorman-Gajic)

This world premiere of a bold, gripping play takes us inside the European sex-trafficking industry, told through the eyes of a young woman as she attempts to find a place in a world she never asked to be a part of. As all moral certainty evaporates, we are left questioning where to draw the line between victim and perpetrator. What would you do to protect the ones you love?

“A gripping and complex morality play.”
Steve Waters (playwright, Limehouse)

Fusing projection, design and immersive soundscapes this captivating three-hander plunges us into a visceral journey, spanning Serbia, Bosnia and the UK. Artistically integrated captions make this play accessible for d/Deaf audiences and native Serbian speakers. Captions translated into Serbian by Zorica Agbaba.

10% of ticket sales go to Unseen, a charity fighting human trafficking.
