An Intern’s Top Ten Picks From Our Autumn/Winter Season

By August 13, 2018No Comments

I can’t believe I’m going to miss this upcoming season at Omnibus Theatre.

I’m Emily, Omnibus Theatre’s Marketing Intern, and my visa expires right before the fall season begins at Omnibus. #tragic 😭. I have incredible FOMO because the only thing worse than leaving the UK and not being able to drink legally is the fact that I’ll be missing out on some incredible shows here at Omnibus.

I’m relatively new to fringe theatre, but ever since I began working here I’ve been exposed to some incredible productions. That being said, since I can’t see these amazing upcoming shows, I compiled a list of the shows that YOU can’t miss.

Blood Wedding

This image gives me chills just wondering what this girl is thinking about. Lust? Vendetta? Eating wedding cake? The play is a reimagined version of Federico García Lorca’s original’s 1932 tragedy. Imagine that situation being put into a modern London setting. With enough drama to match the Red wedding in Game of Thrones, I wouldn’t miss this incredible show.

4 – 23 Sept | £16, £13 concessions

Macbeth: Director's Cut

Double, double, toil and trouble; you think you have problems? Check out this married couple. There were many readings I dreaded getting through in High School. Macbeth was not one of those readings. This modern adaptation of the famous tragedy is to die for. You’ll leave with you’re hands itching to be washed.

1-2 Nov | £16, £13 concessions

Top Half of Dogs

This show combines my two favorite things: pets and comedy. Who doesn’t love a good story and a laugh about man’s best pal? Guaranteed you’ll laugh so hard you’ll need a belly rub afterwards.

7 Nov | £6

Omnibus Fifth Birthday

Birthday cake, cats in birthday hats, special guests, exciting news and FREE events for everyone to enjoy. What could be better? I’m pretty upset about missing this one as there’s some incredible secret that’s going to be released at the birthday party. My lips are sealed, you’ll have to show up November 10th to find out.

10 November | FREE

The Smog

I’m a mystery fiend. Anything that is synonymous with Sherlock Holmes has me hooked. The Smog has some mysterious and hilarious undertones that left me wishing I could figure out WHY this ancient power has returned to wreak havoc. These dark undertones are also combined with comedy. What a concept!

8 Nov | £13, £11 concessions

The Talk

After reading the title, you already know this play is going to be similar to that awkward convo you had with your parents (or in my case, grandparents) about canoodling. I think it will be interesting to see the difference of sex education between groups and generations.

9 Nov | £13, £11 concessions

Everything I Am

Do you love Kanye more than Kanye loves Kanye? Tash does. Do you ever apply Kanye’s lyrics to life? Tash does. Not only does this production scream #girlpower, it incorporates our “generations closes thing to Einstein” when sticking it to the man. I love that.

21 Nov | £13, £11 concessions

So, This Is What Happened

I’ve only been on this planet for a short while, but I do know that you don’t have to have a certain title to have a good story up your sleeve. There is something so creative about hearing an incredible story from a stranger. Come for laughs, cries, and drinks.

Last Thursday of every month | £6

Andrey Lebedev & Lotte Betts Dean

There is a lot of exciting music that is happing at Omnibus in fall as well. For this pick I’m back on my contemporary Shakespeare Grind, however, there’s much more offered during this show. Award winning Lebedev and Betts-Dean play guitar and sing popular songs from all around the world. Guaranteed there will be a good song for everyone to enjoy.

30 Sept | £15, £12 concessions, £6 Under 25s

You Are Wolf

Kerry Andrew’s exciting second album combines all the magical elements of water into one promising performance with genres of electronica, pop, and classical music. Also there was mention of boy killing mermaids? Now that’s pretty neat.

14 Oct | £13, £11 concessions, £6 Under 25s
